Bud Billiken Parade
The Bud Billiken Parade is the oldest and largest African American parade in the United States, and this year marks its 90th anniversary! Guests of all ages can enjoy a procession of bands, dance groups, and floats marching down King Drive, commemmorating the community's past and celebrating its future.
From the host:
"Every summer since 1929, 'The Bud' has united African-Americans throughout the city of Chicago in music, dance, food, and laughter. It’s one of the only spaces where we can openly and emphatically praise the historic roots that plant us into the South Side of Chicago."
The focus of the parade is getting kids ready for school. The parade steps off at 10am at King Drive and 39th Street, and ends in Washington Park with a family fair.
