With Election Day on Tuesday and Veterans Day on Friday, we have lots of opportunities this week to teach our kids about the election, patriotism, and service to our country. While the school kids have the day off on Friday, many of us still have to work, so we're very appreciative of the drop-off programs offered by the JCC, Puddlestompers, H2K, and LINX (register in advance). Families looking for something to do together on Friday have so many stellar options, we couldn't choose just one. See our picks below.
Remember to vote—in the national election, of course, but also in another (decidedly less stressful) contest: the Besties. When you vote in the Besties you're entered to win amazing prizes from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Great Wolf Lodge, and Puerto Vallarta just for showing the love for your favorite family-friendly spots in Boston.
Have a great stars and stripes week, and remember to check our Event Calendar when you're looking for something fun to do with the kids.

Tuesday 11/08 – Election Day is finally here. After you take the kids with you to vote, let them have some fun building a big Rigamajig at the Children's Museum in Easton (ages 5+; included with museum admission).

Wednesday 11/09 – Commune with nature and enjoy time with your preschooler during an Early Explorers program at the Boston Nature Center (ages 3-6; $5-7).

Thursday 11/10 – It's always a good idea to know what to do in an emergency situation involving your child. On the list of things we'd rather not think about but are quite necessary, taking a Child CPR class is right up there with designating a guardian. Go ahead and take the class—you'll feel better prepared and you can give yourself a pat on the back for winning at parenting (adults; $37).

Friday 11/11 – Honor those who serve in the military by making holiday cards at the Spellman Museum in Weston to send to U.S. troops overseas. Other fun activities and refreshments are also part of the museum's Veterans Day celebration (ages 5+; included with museum admission). If you're looking to stay in the city for the day, GreenPLAY on the Greenway sounds like a surefire winner for school-age kids (ages 5+; FREE). Young children will be dazzled by an electroluminescent telling of The Ugly Duckling at the JCC in Newton (ages 3+; $18).
