Families are welcome to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by exploring the majestic gardens and legendary galleries of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum focused on the theme of community service.

Programming for the day:

  •  Jeff W. Jones presents Untold Stories, a personal journey through four generations of African-American cultural history in Boston featuring music and imagery.
  • Craft a care package for families served by the Elizabeth Stone House. This organization partners with adult and child survivors of domestic violence and related trauma to achieve safety, stability, and overall well-being, thereby contributing to the strength, resiliency, and health of the community it serves.
  • Marsha Parrilla and Danza Orgánica present Melaza: a dance performance exploring the colonial relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States. Featuring special guests Martín Espada, and Karish. Community talk back to follow.
  • African Tea, inspired by the Gardner Museum’s special exhibition Henry James and American Painting, Creator/Performer Obehi Janiceshares stories of colonialism and identity through the lens of tea and Malta Goya.
  • Courtyard - Dr. King’s speeches are projected throughout the day in the historic Palace.
