Bird Park is always a popular place for canine friends, but Dog Day is a can’t-miss event for dogs, their owners, and those who just enjoy spending time in the company of dogs.
This year, the Trustees is partnering with Golden Opportunities for Independence (GOFI), a Walpole-based nonprofit with a mission to pair highly trained service dogs with people living with a disability as a means to facilitate confidence, mobility, and a more independent lifestyle. To support GOFI and the park, Dog Day kicks off with a 2-mile fundraising Walk for Pooches and Parks. Of course, pooches are welcome to join in (if they're well-behaved with people and other dogs).
After the walk, be amazed by the Flying High Frisbee Dogs who perform a variety of awesome and entertaining tricks (and be warned, the performance has lots of audience participation). If you have a dog with talent, then enter our very silly "Best in Show" competition or enjoy free activities — make a dog craft, enjoy the "Dog Fun Fact" walk, or go poolside with your dog at one of the "doggie" ("kiddie") pools (with a cool mister). You also can check out a GOFI dog demonstration and see how these amazing dogs assist folks living with a disability. Plus, great vendors of dog-related products and services will be on site. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
