ARTfull Online: Stick, Tie, Attach
Build sculptures that challenge our ideas of scale and strength by experimenting and playing with materials that stick, tie, and attach. Investigate the different ways you can use items such as tape, glue, magnets, velcro, snaps, and string. What will you discover and how will you surprise yourself and others?
This interactive class is limited to 10 students. Register below. You will receive the zoom details via email at least one day prior to the first class.
Materials:
Your child is invited to bring any materials that they find curious or inspiring!
Suggested materials:
- Mark-making: markers, pastels, chalk, crayons, pens, pencils, paint, paint sticks
- Adhesives: glue, tape, velcro, stickers
- Tools: paintbrush, scissors, klever cutter
- Surfaces: printer paper, tracing paper, wrapping paper, cardboard, poster board, fabric
- Recycled, crafty, and unconventional materials: plastic and wood bits, magazines, buttons, brads, paperclips, bubble wrap, broken toys & electronics, newspaper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, feathers, pompoms, twisty ties, yarn, string, wire, mirrors, magnets, items from nature
Setting up:
A studio is a designated space where an artist creates. It holds the artist’s special tools and materials and helps the artist feel inspired and safe. Remember, every home, family, and artist is different…so all studios will look different!
About the Instructor:
Anna Cohen has taught in a variety of art centers, schools, and museums in both Vermont and the Boston Metro area. Anna is also an instructor for deCordova’s summer program, the hive, and has been a part of other deCordova family and community programs. She enjoys working with natural and recycled materials, with an interest in STEAM and ephemeral art, as well as constructing large-scale structures. Anna encourages all children to appreciate the process as much as the product of their own work and to explore, ask questions, and find beauty in the world around them.
