This year's annual Winter Family Day celebrates the exhibitions Beatrix Potter: The Picture Letters and Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol. Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and some of their most mischievous friends will join forces with Scrooge, Cratchit, and the Ghost of Christmas Present to sweep families into a whirlwind of exuberant fun. Join that merry bunch and enjoy puppets, an art workshop, strolling characters, a costume photo shoot, and more.
Schedule of Events:
2 to 3 p.m.
The Tales of Beatrix Potter
With a combination of hand, rod, and shadow puppets, puppeteer and storyteller Christopher Hudert single-handedly animates three favorite tales by Beatrix Potter: The Tales of Two Bad Mice, Mr. Jeremy Fisher, and Jemima Puddle-Duck.
2 to 5 p.m.
Christmas Present!
The Grand Falloons company leads visitors in a lively celebration of Victorian London with impersonations of A Christmas Carol characters Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present, as well as Charles Dickens.
2 to 5 p.m.
Hide and Seek: Masks and Surprise Drawings
With the help of artist and educator Nicole Haroutunian, children will use an array of colorful trimmings such as ribbons, feathers, flowers, and tulle to create masks of their favorite Beatrix Potter characters. They will also learn to hide surprises in their drawings.
2 to 5 p.m.
Do-It-Yourself Photo Shoot
Children travel through time, trying on colorful hand-made costumes created by artist and educator Pamela Koehler and inspired by the Morgan's collections of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts and children's books. Parents are invited to take pictures with their own cameras. Tripods are not permitted.
2 to 5 p.m.
Tiddly, Widdly, Widdly: Mrs. Tittlemouse gives a tour

3:15 p.m.
A Christmas Carol Off the Shelves: Reading in the Library
Discover the secret of Mr. Morgan's Library as the Grand Falloons company brings Dickens and his masterpiece to life right off the shelves with a spirited dramatic reading of short excerpts from A Christmas Carol. (20 minutes)
3 to 5 p.m.
There is a Time and Place (To Be Naughty)
Shh! The library is a place to be quiet. But two rabbits just arrived ready for some fun! Will they be the Morgan's new favorite guests, or a naughty nuisance? The Ben Jam invites you to join in the fun with new interactive performances and games inspired by Beatrix Potter's characters. Watch the rambunctious rabbits stir up trouble, dodge the guards, and maybe even have a run-in with "Morgan," a mysterious presence in the library.
