Weekend Fun for NYC Kids: Summer Streets, Kids Rule Weekend, Cirque du Soleil, Astoria Shore Fest August 2-3

7/30/14 - By Stephanie Ogozalek

It's the first weekend of August and while some New Yorkers are leaving the city for far-flung destinations, we're planning a fun-filled staycation for the rest of the summer. This weekend brings lots of family fun including two of our top event picks of the month: Manhattan's car-free Summer Streets and an interactive display of vintage wind-up circus toys in Coney Island. There are some great FREE events, too, like a Hindu Lamp Ceremony in Brooklyn Bridge Park and the activity-filled Kids Rule Weekend in the Bronx.

However you spend the weekend, remember to share photos of your family's adventures on social media for a chance to win our SUMMER OF PLAY Grand Prize: Everything you need to throw the ULTIMATE SUMMER OF PLAY BASH, including gift cards for toys, tableware and decorations, and healthy snacks. If you need playtime inspiration, we have hundreds of ideas in our SUMMER OF PLAY GUIDE.

These are just a few of the great things going on this weekend. All of our best bets are below. You can find additional options in our Event Calendar and our Summer Fun Guide. And if you're looking to plan out your entire month, check out our new NYC Go List highlighting the absolute best things to do with kids throughout August.
