Me

I've been fascinated to learn how the brain's executive function challenges many kids in school and at home.

The Big Kid

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one.

A wonderful story with great illustrations and an environmental message that's not preachy or scary.

Monday Quick Hits: Toxic Kid Shampoos, Studio Living, Big Love and Mad Mormons, More

If you think you are the only "worst parent ever," take heart. I think we all get verbally abused by our little dictators. One dad has decided to document his tiny tyrant's critiques on his art work on a blog. It's hilarious...and reassuring. Also, bad product ideas, what's making Mormons mad, the scent of Brooklyn, toxic baby shampoos, and the virtues of living in a studio with kids.

Think you're kid's tough on you? Check out The Tiny Art Director, a blog and now a book, where one dad documents his 3 year old daughter's harshest critiques of his drawings. Guaranteed to make you smile. (via LostatEMinor)

Just in case nothing happened this weekend to totally creep you out, here's the worst idea of the day (Week?  Month?): Baby Bangs Headband.  Make sure not to stare at this website for more than a few seconds or you may have a case of the "I wish I could wash my brain". You've been warned.  (via Jezebel)

"Big Love" is pushing the envelope again.  In Sunday's episode, they depicted a sacred Mormon temple ceremony.  HBO pre-apologized to the LDS church, but something tells me that's not exactly going to quell the Mormon masses.  (Huffington Post)

Brooklyn residents weren't impressed with a high-end perfume named "Brooklyn" being designed with graffitti-like street art, so the manufacturer is holding a contest to re-design the bottle.  (Your Nabe via McBrooklyn)

Oh man, one more thing to watch out for.  I'm beginning to think I should just rinse my child off with filtered water and only feed him home-grown nuts and berries.  Anyway, here's a list of which Kids Shampoos have cancer causing agents.  (Stroller Derby)

Mommy Poppins reader; breaks the common sense out when she reveals why she loves living in a studio apartment with a toddler.  (Are We Still Cool?)

Submitted by Jodi on March 16, 2009 - 11:01pm.

Tselinger - I have a few of those products in our shower right now.  It sometimes seems hopeless trying to keep up with all the warnings.  Let me know how it goes with the water + berries route, and if we should market that.....

Carrie - My boy always is mistaken for a girl too!  HA!  Yeh, those baby bangs really creeped me out. That's why I had to share them.  I think if you paired them with those baby socks with high-heels built in we'd have a full on nightmare.  Tell me you've seen those or I'll be forced to link to them as well.  :)

regarding the baby bangs - why on earth would you want to put a 'wig' on your baby?
the before pictures, showing the sweet baby heads are so wonderful

this from the mom of the almost four year old with long hair, who has to constantly say 'I'm a boy!'

We have used so many of those shampoos, it's disheartening and frightening. I wish more of the healthier children's hair products were readily available in the boondocks where we live now. I'm with going the filtered water and berries route, too! (Unless, of course, they're non-organic berries...)
