New York City Area Summer Day Camps With Availability (and Discounts)
You've all heard the hype: in NYC you have to sign your kid up for summer camp at the beginning of the year or you'll never get a spot. Well, honestly, for some camps that really is true. Popular, small programs like the Museum of Natural History Summer Camps or Fieldston Day Camp almost completely fill up from returning campers and members who get first priority, so to get a spot at these types of kids camps you have to really be on the ball.
But, if you haven't given a thought to your summer plans there's no need to panic. There are many, many camps that still have spots. Larger camps like 92nd St Y, Chelsea Piers and Oasis can most likely make a spot for a kid up until the last minute. And, many of the specialized weekly camps will have a week here or there that won't fill up. A little leg work can find a child a spot at a great camp even this late in the year.
If you've been too busy to sign your child up for camp by now, the last thing you need is to spend your time calling around to camps looking for a summer program that had room for your child now. So, we've done the leg-work for you. We've called around and found 30 great camps that have spots and listed the sessions available at each of them. We've even listed some special deals for you. Hi, I just have to say, your
Hi, I just have to say, your blog is so helpful for me. I'm originally from NYC but left Before Child (BC). My parents still have a condo there and we visit often. My mom has been doing a great job finding stuff for my son, but now I actually need some help or advice.
Since I live in Central America, my summer is backwards from you guys. And all these wonderful camps are not good for me. However, my question to you is:
We are planning on coming for our summer, October and November. Are there any programs for 5 year olds, that are full day? I know it's a ways away, however, I don't know if you would know something like that.
I so appreciate your help!
Thanks,
Marina K. Villatoro
Marina, I think it will be
Marina,
I think it will be difficult to find a full day program during our school year that would take your son for only a few months, but there probably would be some. I think you will need to wait until right before you come and then call around to preschools and see if any of them have a spot open. You could also join the parent's league and they provide the service of letting you know about empty spots in private schools and preschools. You can also look into schools that cater to International families. The Children's Workshop is one preschool like this (find it on our preschool page). Also the Lycee Francais and La Scuola di Italia are two others. Lastly preschool alternatives like New York Kids Club may have full day programs that you could sign up for for a few months. Good luck!
My daughter is in a private
My daughter is in a private lutheran school in Queens and they cater to a lot of international students. I had no problem enrolling her for nursery mid school year and they explained to me that some of their students are only there for a few months out of the year since parents have to travel or work in NYC only a few months and then work the remaining time abroad.
If interested in a school in the Rego Park section of Queens, I would recommend Our Saviour Lutheran School. They are great. They have half days, full days and extended days with early and late hours available. If not, I would probably recommend looking into private schools as they are more accomodating than public.
Good luck with your search.
Hi Gloria, Thanks so much
