I've been fascinated to learn how the brain's executive function challenges many kids in school and at home.

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one.

A wonderful story with great illustrations and an environmental message that's not preachy or scary.

Celebrate Congo Gorilla Forest's 10 Year Anniversary at the Bronx Zoo

Celebrate Congo Gorilla Forest's 10 Year Anniversary at the Bronx Zoo I remember when they originally opened the Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit at The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo, what a revelation it was. To be able to stand with just a thin layer of glass separating us from those amazing animals. I can hardly believe that the Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit is now celebrating it's 10th Anniversary. Has it really been 10 years!?!

The 10th Anniversary of the Congo Gorilla Forest makes now an especially good time to visit, because The Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo is celebrating with special programs that highlight the Congolese culture. There will be traditional African drum and dance performances by the Harambee Dance Company, kids can watch “lunchtime with the gorillas” at 2pm each day, and experience the crafts of the Republic of Congo with artisans from the Museum for African Art leading workshops in Basket-making, Gourd Adornment, Bead-making and Mask making. Best of all, visiting the zoo contributes to WCS's ongoing conservation work with gorillas and the Congo.

For kids the thrill of the Congo is always new. They love to see the gorillas face to face, playing with their own "children" and even seeming to interact with us sometimes. Our children have been so lucky to have this wonderful award-winning experience right at our doorsteps. To be able to experience the largest African rain forest ever built where they can discover thousands of exotic plants, miles of vines, elephant footprints, monkeys, hogs, mandrills, and birds, in addition to, of course, seeing the gorillas up close and personal any time we want.

The special Congo programs will be held on: 6/19 - 6/20, 6/26 - 6/27, 7/4 – 7/5, 7/11-7/12, 7/18-19, and 7/25-26. You can get a $5 discount on admission by visiting www.bronxzoo.com/congo.

I have contacted the zoo

Submitted by mommy on June 22, 2009 - 5:02am.

I have contacted the zoo about this issue and am waiting to get a response. I will keep you posted. The only thing I can think of is that the events don't start until next weekend, so maybe the codes don't work yet, but we'll see what they say. I'm hoping they will rectify this. Thanks for letting us know what's going on.
