Bohemian Festival 2013

Bringing together a diverse palette of live music, globally sourced DJs, dancers, performers, art and workshops, our second annual Bohemian Festival will be both a culturally rich and insanely festive camp-out and non-stop party on the grounds of the historic Onderdonk House in Ridgewood, Queens. This event is for ALL AGES. The festival will feature the renowned ensemble Yuri Yunakov & The Grand Masters of Gypsy Music, local Klezmer legend Frank London,The Klezwoods, Escarioka, Amour Obscur, Radio Armada, Big Volcano, SisterMonk, The Soul Muse, Askultura, Balkan Stomp, the Burdel Dali trans-global dj collective, and many more talented musicians and performers. Other initiatives include a live music-driven body painting experiment featuring local artists and musicians, yoga workshops lead by Anastasia Nevin of the renowned Laughing Lotus Yoga studio, Tahitian dance workshops and performances, belly dance workshops, henna tattoo artists, tarot card readers, and more. The festival will take place May 17th – 19th, 2013 at the Onderdonk House (1820 Flushing Avenue, Ridgewood). Live music will begin at approximately 6PM each day, preceded by morning workshops, food, and drinks.

Play Pac-Man and Other Retro Video Games at NYC Museums and Family Arcades

Things to do with kids: Play Pac-Man and Other Retro Video Games at NYC Museums and Family Arcades

Your kids are intimately familiar with all of the different Angry Birds and their powers, and know exactly where to Cut the Rope to feed the little monster. But can they name all four of the ghosts in Pac-Man? Doubtful... but we bet you can! (Say it with me: Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde). Since today's kids are used to touch screen games (or games that require no touching at all), getting the chance to jerk around joystick on a vintage video game console is a real novelty. Trouble is, where do you find those these days? Why, in a museum of course.

The Museum of the Moving Image and the Museum of Modern Art have both amassed old-school arcade video game collections, and you can actually play many of them in two new exhibits. And if you worry that a museum isn't the optimal setting for game playing (which often involves a lot of whooping and cheering), we've also found a handful of old-fashioned family-friendly arcades (and no, not one is a Chuck E. Cheese's or Dave & Buster's).
