25 Things to Do With Kids in Fairfield, Connecticut

Ahhh, Fairfield, located in Fairfield County, CT. It is as lovely as the name sounds -- a community built for families, with plenty to do both indoors and out.  So much, in fact, we didn't even have to include downtown sidewalk shopping on this list of 25 things to do!  Or the Main Library's Children's Department.  Or the Bellarmine Museum of Art ...  it's gonna take you some time to cross all of these off!

Turkey Trots for Kids: Where Westchester Families Get Active for a Good Cause

Across Westchester County, families will be celebrating Thanksgiving this month with a fun and healthy tradition—the turkey trot. No longer a fancy dance step, the turkey trot is an annual ritual in many places—and occasionally involves an actual frozen turkey! Running a 5K can torch 300 to 500 calories, depending on individual person and his or her current fitness level. That’s enough for a second helping of Uncle Jim’s famous pumpkin pie, extra gravy on everything or a cup full of stuffing!

We've rounded up some of the best turkey trots around Westchester, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and preemptively work off your Thanksgiving dinner while raising money for some good causes. Be sure to click through to the event listing for even more details. And look for more fall fun on our Event Calendar and our November GoList!

A Visit to the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London

At least one Saturday morning a month, you’ll find my family perusing art galleries and museums. We find the experience equally relaxing and energizing, and my daughters get excited about finding a new favorite artwork or inspiration for a new project. Recently, we took our first trip to the Lyman Allyn Art Museum and spent a lovely day in New London.

Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Storytime, Crafts, Museums Nov 2-6

Just browse through the entire Events Calendar for more weekday fun and be sure to check out our November GOList which features a round up of our top picks for the month. Make it a great week!

Yoga Classes for Kids in Westchester and Lower Hudson Valley

When searching for activities for our kids, we often gravitate toward the ones that help them expend all of their energy and get the wiggles out. But kids aren’t Labradors, and it’s not enough to go on the notion that a tired kid is a happy kid. (It’s often the opposite!)  A successful and age-appropriate yoga program is yet another way to help kids gain confidence, focus and relaxation.

While there are several yoga studios in the area that offer classes for children, we’ve focused on the ones that are truly family friendly and provide specialized programs just for kids.

Be sure to check out the rest of our classes in our Classes Guide!

East 72nd Central Park Playground Reopens After Eight-Month Renovation

The East 72nd Street playground in Central Park reopened this month, welcoming kids with slides, swings, a redesigned sandbox and climbing structures after an eight-month rehab. The Central Park Conservancy has undertaken a massive playground renovation project with a lofty goal of upgrading all 21 of the park's perimeter playgrounds

The playground debuted in 1936! It underwent renovations in 1969 and again in 2000. The current project was more of a facelift than a total overhaul, with improvements focused on increasing accessibility and updating safety standards. We couldn't wait to have a look—and the many happy, romping kids seem to have given their seal of approval.
