Summer Job Resources for Teens in Philadelphia

For many, keeping teens busy and out of trouble over the summer months can be difficult. Most likely, your job doesn't allow you to take the summer off and it can be hard to keep tabs on your teens when you're not around. Others view summer jobs as a wonderful learning experience for their teens. Summer gives kids the chance to take the skills they've learned in school and apply them in the real world. Jobs can teach kids how to save money and budget, and can also be a great way for motivated kids to contribute to that college fund.

Whether your kid is into lifeguarding, babysitting, being a camp counselor or a more intense internship, we've compiled a few resources to help you get your teen started off on the right foot.

Dumbo Boulders: Climbing Brooklyn's Giant New Wall with Kids

When we heard a 12-foot high outdoor climbing wall had landed on the waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park, my tree-climbing, monkey-bar-swinging son had to give it a try. As longtime Brooklynites, we’ve been taking advantage of the ever-expanding Brooklyn Bridge Park and great Dumbo eats for years. The addition of Dumbo Boulders offers yet another great reason to visit the neighborhood.

Free Admission for Kids at New Jersey's Biggest Family Attractions

NJ is home to many wonderful places for kids—the state’s museums, zoos, farms and lighthouses are all great venues for family outings. The only downside? Visiting all these attractions can get pricey, especially if there are multiple kids in your family. To lighten the blow to your wallet, plan a trip to one of the destinations listed below, all which offer free admission for children under certain ages. Keep this page handy and make sure to strategically plan your visit before your child's next birthday!

Note: The cut-off ages imply that once children reach that age, they no longer qualify for free entry.

25 Things to Do with Kids in Tallahassee, Florida

Forget what you know about Florida. As I learned on a recent visit to Tallahassee, the Sunshine State's capital is the other side of Florida and I don't mean just geographically. Twenty miles south of the Georgia border, this isn't where families go to hit the sand and surf or to visit one of the state's famous town-sized amusement parks. Instead, Tallahassee is a vibrant college-city packed with outdoor adventures, nature and wildlife, art and culture and great eats.

Tallahassee is a perfect weekend getaway (or mid-point break on a trip to Orlando, Tampa or Miami) with something for everyone: Spanish colonial and American Civil War history can be found at every turn, kayaking, hiking, fishing and cycling beckon the outdoor enthusiasts, and critters like alligators and manatee can be spotted in their natural habitats. Plus, there are a couple of cool things you can only see in "Tally" such as the spot where Hollywood filmed the 1950s sci-fi flick Creature from the Black Lagoon and a graveyard full of early generation, rusting Ford trucks.

Read on to find out what else there is to do on a Tallahassee family vacation.

Mother's Day Weekend Things To Do with LA Kids: Bird Day, Free Comic Books, and Brunch, May 7 - 8

Here's what Momma wants for Mother's Day: comic books, cakes, and frappuccinos. All the rest is just icing on the aforementioned cake. Sure, there are other things that will be greatly appreciated. Ice show with world champions? Don't mind if I do! A few hours in the dark with classic black-and-white comedians? Count me in, Ollie! And yes, I would be delighted to accompany you to brunch. Is there bacon at said brunch? More's the better.

Of course, every mom is different. One size does not fit all, which is why frappuccinos come in grande, venti, and that other size. Did I mention I'm a mom? I totally deserve this.

There are some other things going on ths weekend: the makeover reveal of Los Cerritos Center (with makeovers for moms), a breakfast with gibbons (see how well they treat their mamas), celebrations of books and literacy at CAAM and in Grand Park (make your mama proud; read a book!), and a bunch of clever craft activities that can double as gifts for Mom (aw, isn't that thoughtful!). There are even freebies for Mom, because, really, where would you be without her?

Call your mom; send her some flowers, and keep reading for some of our most maternal picks for this weekend.

Happy Mother's Day to all the other moms out there! It has certainly been a drab and dreary week, but even if we don't get sunshine outside, our children will surely brighten up the day. Whether you head out with the family for one of these budget-friendly options or for a spur-of-the-moment brunch, this weekend is most definitely the chance to sit back and get pampered for everything we do all the other days of the year.

Saturday offers some great ways for dads, grandparents, or babysitters to enjoy quality time with the kids and give moms a break. With everything from a visit to the Harbor Islands to arts workshops to a steampunk festival, the kids can get out for some fun and leave moms with some alone time, or even the chance to sneak off and see the ballet!
