What We're Reading

Me
200908230839.jpg

I've been fascinated to learn how the brain's executive function challenges many kids in school and at home.

The Big Kid
200908230840.jpg

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one.

The LIttle Kid
200908230836.jpg

A wonderful story with great illustrations and an environmental message that's not preachy or scary.

Win a Free Family Portrait Photo Session in Our New Artisan Guide

New York City is filled with incredible artists and, as parents, we are lucky that many of them make their talents and their services available to families: the concert pianist who teaches children, the painters and photographers who do portraits, artist who create wonderful and imaginative murals, and lots and lots of craftspeople of every stripe. We have created a new page to help these artists connect with the families that can use their services.

Whether you are looking for that perfect Holiday photo, an artful memento of a new family member, a mural for the nursery, or a beautiful hand-made gift, our Artists and Artisan Guide features several talented professionals who can share their expertise with you. Check out the guide to discover their work and the discounts they are offering Mommy Poppins readers.

I thought the galleries were wonderful. With the holidays coming up, a family portrait would be fantastic!! My only qualm about both sites is that they have no pricing at all. i prefer when photographers are upfront about the session fee and cost of each type of print. Just my personal opinion.... Fingers crossed for a free family photo shoot!!!

I am so impressed! I have 14 month old twin girls that love to pose for photos. We never get family photos because it's always just the four of us, so someone is always left out. I would love to do a family photo!!

Submitted by Lauren on November 2, 2009 - 1:41pm.

Both photographers are awesome - in totally different ways. The framing & settings & sensibility in the photographs of Petite Simone are amazing, conveying a sense of motion and movement. Suzanne Cohen does a great job at capturing the kids and all their expressions in exquisite detail, and the colors are gorgeous. (Thanks for the chance to win a session with one of these photographers!)

Submitted by Esther on November 6, 2009 - 9:00am.

I'm an avid picture taker and love taking pictures of my beautiful, adorable, gorgeous... kids (and I'm not biased). But, I also love to have family pictures and can't do that when I'm the one taking the pics all the time. Plus, any time my 2 year old sees me take out the camera, she just wants to look at the pictures on the back. It would be an honor to have such talented photographers take pictures of my children and family.

The comfort that the children and families portray in the photos speaks highly about the photographers behind the cameras. Our 8 month old son loves to pose for our snaps but it would be really nice to have a professional family shot of us in motion or daily routine to capture this special time in our lives.

Submitted by Tara on November 7, 2009 - 10:19am.

Both photographers showed very impressive stylish work. I would be elated to have either take my 3 month old redhead baby's picture.

Cohen's page showed more pictures and more babies giving the impression of more experience.

Simone's page showed more artistic pictures and pictures with movement. Wish there were more pictures shown on the site. Favorite photo was the triple photo montage of the girl spinning. Great work!

So nice to see photographers

Submitted by Kathy B on November 7, 2009 - 1:09pm.

So nice to see photographers capture the beauty in the everyday instead of posed pictures. My kids never look like the well dressed, hair combed, no runny nose versions of themselves in portrait pics. I think they are at their most beautiful in those wild haired, flying through the air moments that i can never capture on film. I like both artists but Petit
Simone the best.
