Weekend Events for Kids on Long Island, July 31-August 2nd: Great Outdoor Concerts, Summer Festival and Historic Baseball

7/31/09 - By

Lots of things to do with kids this weekend on Long Island. This weekend's events include a great Summer Festival, fun outdoor concerts for kids with Brady Rymer or David Cassidy, or spending the day at an Historical Baseball Tournament. Have a great weekend!

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Sayville SummerFest-This weekend's biggest and best Summerfest is down in Sayville. Sayville, down on the South Shore, is another wonderful example of a little "Main Street"  town who knows how to throw a big party. With the usual carnival rides and games, this festival also has dance parties with DJs, live music and performances and a fun Children's Fun Run as well.   But what makes this carnival unique is the Classic Car Show. Visiting classic car shows is a great activity to do with your kids; mine especially love looking at the cool paint jobs and fancy wheels. For more information and an event calendar, click here.

Weekend Concerts-As you may have figured out with our weekly event posts, Long Island plays host to great outdoor concerts all Summer long, and most of them are free. This weekend there are two amazing free outdoor concerts for families featuring famous musician who I can say are both great in concert.

Brady Rymer-Grammy Nominated Rymer and his grass roots band will be performing in Hoyt Farm Park Friday night at 7pm. Hoyt Farm Park is located in Commack and is a great place to visit, even if you weren't going for a concert. If you can swing it, there is a water playground which would be fun for the kids to play at or a Nature Center you can visit before the concert. For the concert, be sure to ring chairs or a picnic blanket and food for dinner-most families enjoy the concert with a picnic.

David Cassidy- Take a trip down memory lane and check out David Cassidy live in concert in Massapequa at John J Burns Park. Cassidy's high energy and upbeat music is a great excuse to keep the kids up late. Be sure you bring a picnic blanket in case the kids get danced out. And if you can't make this concert, click here for a schedule of other great concerts as a part of the Music Under the Starts Series put on by the Town of Oyster Bay.

Historic Baseball Tournament-We love to write about Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Here is another good reason to get head there and check it out. They are holding their Annual Baseball Tournament. Vintage baseball teams from across the Northeast dress the part and even use old equipment to put on a great show. And there is even a baseball historian on hand (for the real baseball buffs) who can explain the differences and give a little history. There is a fee ($10 per adult and $7 per kid), but you only have to pay it one time for the entire weekend. For more information click here.
