Valentine's Day Kids' Craft Idea: How to Make Chocolate Lollipops

The sweetest Valentines are always the ones you make, especially if they are made of chocolate! It is so simple to make molded chocolate lollipops for Valentines Day that even little children can make them without too much help. It takes only 1 ingredient, 3 steps, and just 15 minutes “hands on” time!

Materials needed:
- Molds for chocolate
- Lollipop sticks
- Chocolate
Instructions:
- In an open double boiler melt your favorite kind of chocolate - single origin organic bars, wafers, chips or even a Hershey bar from the drug store, over simmering water. As it melts, stir with a metal spoon until it is smooth. (Don’t use a wooden spoon which can retain moisture and turn your chocolate into a huge, messy, disaster.) If you don’t have a double boiler set a glass or metal bowl into a pot. You want the bowl to fit nicely in the pot and not touch the water.
- While the chocolate is still warm, spoon it into molds. Tap mold gently on counter to remove bubbles and smooth out chocolate. Lay lollipop sticks in mold where indicated with about ¼ to ½ of stick in the chocolate. Twirl stick around in chocolate so it is submerged in the chocolate.
- Put the chocolate filled mold on a flat surface in the fridge for an hour or two. When the chocolate looks shiny and feels hard – pop it out and you are done!
- You can get fancy plastic bags for the lollipops or just wrap them in plastic food storage wrap and let the kids go to town decorating them with stickers.
- If you want to get really creative, buy some white chocolate and color it (or buy colored chocolate) and first ‘paint’ a thin layer of colored chocolate on the mold and let it harden in fridge. When hard, spoon the brown chocolate into the mold and put in fridge again until hard.
