Sandcastle Building Contest
Thursday, June 25, 9:30 am
Hither Hills State Park
>50 South Fairview Drive, Montauk

The beginning of Summer brings the first of weekly sandcastle building contests at Hither Hills State Park in Montauk. This family event was started to engage all the visiting families in beachy fun, but now it draws families from as far as Garden City who drive out just for the day for the event. With a judge, certificates for all entrants and  a prize of  bragging rights plus a cool t-shirt, the contest is legit and official. Yet, the fact that it is typically filled with more than 75 kids participating makes it fun. It is well organized, and the beach is beautiful. If you happen to be one of  the lucky  (or really smart and organized) families who secured your camping spot oh! about last year at this time, then you can save the $8 vehicle use fee; otherwise, the contest is free to enter and is sure to be worth a drive and the vehicle fee.

Yosi and the Superdads
Sunday, June 28, 1:30 pm
Long Island Children’s Museum
11 Davis Avenue, Garden City.

If  you or your kids are musically inclined (or, in other words,  you love to sing and dance,) there are two great choices for you to this weekend. Check out the new CD Release Party for Yosi and the Superdads at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City.  Silly, spunky, and always a good time, Yosi's concerts are the perfect choice for an “end of school year” celebration.

Summer Arts Festival
Starts Saturday, June 27
Heckscher Park
Main Street, Rt 25A, Huntington

Or if the weather shapes up and you want to check out a great outdoor concert with your brood, the Huntington Arts Council kicks off it’s Summer Arts Festival this weekend with some great concerts. Whether the musicians are singing kid tunes or not, these concerts are always filled with families and picnic blankets. Check out the schedule here.

Sunday, June 28, 1pm
Nassau County Museum of Art
1 Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor, NY

For all you culturally flavored families, you should be sure  to visit the Nassau County Museum of Art’s Family Fun Day. With a special family walk-through of the museum led by a docent, a family art activity at 1:30, and the newly celebrated Ridder Museum of Mini Art created just for wee ones and their famlies (when you see it you’ll know what we mean), you can find an afternoon of art appreciation for people of all ages.

Great American Backyard Campout

And finally, this weekend, the National Wildlife Federation is holding the Annual Great American Backyard Campout. The event was designed to encourage families to do more camping together and get out and appreciate nature, even if it means just heading out the back door. Grab your tents, sleeping bags, and camp gear, who knows what  kind of adventure you can find right in your own backyard! Learn more here.

Happy Summer!
