NYC Stroller Repair: Where to Get Your Stroller Fixed in New York City
If you've got a baby or toddler in NYC, chances are you have a stroller (or two or three). When my son was young, our stroller got plenty of wear and tear up and down subway stairs, across potholes, and through muddy parks, snowy streets and rainstorms. It also pulled double-duty as a grocery cart, coat rack and, when strapped, a diaper changing table.
While heavy-duty strollers are built to withstand a fair amount of abuse, if you're using your wheels every day, parts inevitably break. Do you really want to trash that $1,000 stroller because the frame bent or the tire popped off? We didn't think so.
For simple repairs like a blown tire, you can try your local bike shop (many handle minor fixes and may even stock standard stroller-size inner tubes and other small parts). But for more advanced assistance, we've found four New York City shops that specialize in stroller repair so your family can get rolling again.
Stroller Spa – Cobble Hill
275 Degraw Street between Court and Clinton Streets
From brake repair to rust removal, handlebar foam rewrapping to fixing or replacing broken parts, this Brooklyn shop handles most stroller needs, including scrubbing, polishing and sanitizing. Make an appointment to bring your stroller in to the workshop or, for an additional fee, Stroller Spa will pick up and drop off at your home. The shop also services car seats, and provides loaner strollers and seats while yours are being repaired.
Albee Baby – Upper West Side
715 Amsterdam Avenue at 95th Street
This family-owned clothing and gear store has been around since 1933. No appointment is necessary for stroller repairs and most fixes are done on site right away, unless a special part needs to be ordered. One downside: Albee's doesn't provide loaners while your stroller is in the shop.
Heights Kids – Brooklyn Heights
85 Pineapple Walk near Henry Street
This large boutique carries lots of baby and children's items, and is also an authorized Maclaren repair center. The staff handles small fixes on other stroller brands, too, as long as no major parts need to be ordered and replaced. No appointment is necessary.
Maclaren – Soho
150 Wooster Street between W. Houston and Prince Streets
When a handle and foot brake gave out on our workhorse Maclaren Techno, we brought it to the company's Soho showroom where a friendly technician works magic on strollers on Fridays and Sundays. He'll even service non-Maclaren strollers. No appointment necessary and the shop also provides loaners.
