There are art festivals, music festivals, harvest festivals, and for those who want to spend the weekend indoors, grandparent's day at the Liberty Science Center and storytime at the Newark Museum. Or you may just want to hop onto an old-fashioned caboose for a ride...

Jersey City Fridays - A Day of Free Art Events
Friday September 11

This city event promotes the arts with plenty of fun events for kids. There will be crafts, storytime, facepainting, a drum circle, and plenty of opportunities to try the fabulous local food.

Union County Music Festival in (Clark, NJ)
Saturday September 12 and Sunday September 13

Both Saturday and Sunday the Union County Music Festival brings you much more than just music (although the fact that They Might Be Giants will be playing is enough to warrant a trip on Sunday!). Kids Kingdom at the festival brings you pony rides, a petting zoo, laser tag, Lego Master, Clay Station and much more.

1920s Country Fair and Harvest Festival at Fosterfield Historical Farm (Morris, NJ)

From noon to 5pm families can not only experience what life was like on a real farm in the 1920s, but also enjoy wagon rides, period music, crafts, a farmers market, and other activities.

Celebrate Grandparents Day at Liberty Science Center (Jersey City, NJ) Sunday September 13

What better excuse than to bring your grandmother or grandfather to this great museum than getting them in for free! For every child ticket purchased, you get one free senior admission. The museum will also serve milk and cookies for free in celebration of Grandparents day!

Storytime in the Galleries at Newark Museum (Newark, NJ)
Saturday September 12
FREE WITH SUGGESTED ADMISSION
From noon to 1pm, a special guest will retell the story The Brave Little Parrot, a traditional Indian jataka tale. Afterwards, check out the planetarium shows and visit the museum's mini zoo!

Caboose Train Ride at Whippany Railroad Museum (Whippany, NJ)

$12 Adults, $8 Kids
For little train fans, spend the day on an old fashioned caboose on a ten mile trip down a historical train line. It also happens to be military transport day and historical military vehicles will be on display.
