Indoor Play Spaces in Queens with Open Play
[UPDATED: JANUARY 16, 2013]
Winter can be no fun. It’s freaking freezing outside and your kids are probably bouncing off the walls. If you're looking for fun indoor places where they can burn off some energy, check out these great picks in Queens. We've rounded up six favorite spots sure to keep them (and you) warm and happy.
Kids Fun House – Ridgewood
6273 Fresh Pond Road between 70th and 71st Avenues
This is one of the cleanest spaces for open play in the city. The main playground contains three levels of tunnels, mazes and slides to keep kids busy. There's also a designated toddler area perfect for children 6 months to 4 years. Open play is available Tuesday through Sunday from 10am-8pm. Admission ranges from $5-12 per child, depending on the day, and includes five game tokens. No reservations are required. Membership options are also available.
Long Island City Kids – Long Island City
5-02 50th Avenue at 5th Street
LIC Kids is a neighborhood enrichment center offering classes, camps and more. Their gym is available for open play on Sunday mornings from 9:30-11am, and occasionally during other scheduled times as well (please call ahead). Kids can enjoy a trampoline, tunnel and soft play structures. The cost is $12.50 per child and siblings under 1 year are free.
Kids Playhouse – Astoria
34-17 Steinway Street between 34th and 35th Avenues
This Astoria play space opened in December 2011 and really blew us away with its cool amenities and equipment—a colorful, two-and-a-half-story Adventure Maze, a separate carpeted space for toddlers, an arcade, a snack bar and free Wi-Fi for parents. And best of all is the low price: just $7 per child for open play. They're open weekdays from 10am-8pm and drop-ins are welcome. You can read our full review for all of the details, including info on affordable birthday party packages.
Kids 'N Shape – Howard Beach
162-26 Crossbay Boulevard between 162nd and 163rd Avenues
Head to Kids 'N Shape for open play sessions Monday-Friday from 12:30-2:30pm for $10 per child. Weekend time slots are also occasionally available--please check the website for full schedule. Attractions include a ball pit and a large inflatable slide in a gymnasium-like environment.
Preschool Place – Corona
47-01 111th Street
Located inside the New York Hall of Science, this indoor play space features a kitchen, soft blocks and other sensory activities for children ages 6 and under. Special events such as story time and art projects are featured on weekends and holidays. Preschool Place is open during regular museum hours and shuts its doors 15 minutes prior to closing time. Free with admission: $11 for adults, $8 for children ages 2-17.
BounceU – College Point
Whitepoint Center, 132-25 14th Avenue between 132nd Street and 133rd Place
Kids can enjoy supervised open play several times a week at this inflatable playground. This location also offers specials like Saturday Sunrise Bounce and Cosmic Open Bounce. The schedule varies so check the website for updated information. Most open play sessions are $12.99 per child.
