Harmless-to-Horror-Filled NJ Haunted Houses
For those who like a good fright before Halloween night, check out some of these haunted houses. There are plenty of night-time haunts to please the older kids, as well as scaredy cat tours and scare-free zones where kids can also trick or treat. So pick your poison ...
Ghost Tour of Ocean City (Ocean City)
This candlelight walking of Ocean City includes deep and spooky secrets and ghost stories for the area. Fun in the sun turns into fear in the dark after hearing these haunting tales! Tickets sold on a first-come first-served basis beginning at 7:00 pm at Central Emporium. Tours are offered at 8:00 and take approximately 1¼ hours. Recommended for ages 4 and up.
Haunted Terminal at Liberty State Park (Jersey City)
The terminal at Liberty State Park is taken over by ghosts and ghouls for Halloween! So have a scary good time and learn a bit of local history. Wednesday, October 28th and Thursday, October 29th from 7pm to 9:30pm. Recommended for ages 12 and up. Pre-registration required by emailing lspterminal@verizon.net or calling 201-915-3412.
Hobooken's Haunted House (Hoboken)
Located in the old church at 6th and Willow, the creepy outside of the building is nothing compared to what lies within! Saturday October 31st from 7pm to 9pm. The Pumpkin Patch opens at 4pm for kids under 5.
The Haunted Mill (Clinton)
The historic mill of the Red Mill Museum takes on the spooky theme of haunted asylum of zombies! Be warned: the live reenactment of the zombies and spirits seeking revenge is NOT for small children. Haunted tours are Fridays and Saturdays up to October 30 at 6:30pm at night (tickets to be purchased before 4pm.)
NJ Halloween Horrorfest (Augusta)
On the Sussex County Fairgrounds is one of the largest gatherings of vampires, ghosts, goblins, mummies and zombies. There are haunted houses galore in addition to horror movies, haunted mazes, and haunted hayrides. The day events are recommended for ages 5 and up, the night events for ages 12 and up.
Six Flags Annual Fright Fest (Jackson)
Six Flags is ready for Halloween! All month long there are ghosts and ghouls in costume, spooky music and entertainment, trick or treating, and there are plenty of scare-free zones for little kids.
Weeping Willow Cemetery (Jackson)
This haunted cemetery is know for its frightening scenes. This year you can also visit the abandoned and haunted Macabre Manor. Open every Friday and Saturday from 7pm to 11pm. Scaredy cat tours are Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at half price admission.
