Weekly Wrap Up: February Break Camps, Jackson Heights, Valentine's Day, Sesame Street Live Discount

2/9/12 - By Raven Snook

Are you ready for February break? We've been writing about cool places to visit while public schools are off like cozy indoor gardens and the reopened South Street Seaport Museum. If you're up for braving the cold (it's finally starting to feel like winter), you could take a walking tour of a new-to-you area like Jackson Heights, Queens, which is our neighborhood of the month.

Looking for a fun day trip? Get inspired by our posts about 100 things to do on Long Island with kids and 30 things for families to do in Fairfield County, Connecticut. And if you have to work over break, we sympathize. That's why we rounded up midwinter recess camps.

Now's the time to book a cool camp for February break. We found 32 programs, many of which are quite affordable.

Get an early breath of spring at the city's lovely indoor gardens.

Jackson Heights, Queens is our neighborhood of the month, and we kicked off our series of posts with a wonderful slide show and walking tour of this super-diverse area.

We reviewed the much buzzed about Frolic!, the self-described "rock 'n' roll play space" in Williamsburg.

We also shared our thoughts about the motocross extravaganza Nuclear Cowboyz, which invades the Izod Center in early March.

The South Street Seaport Museum recently reopened so we checked out its revamped family programming.

Valentine's Day is next week and there are plenty of ways to celebrate with your kids this weekend.

Another big event this weekend: The two-day grand opening bash at J&R Jr., featuring free performances by Dan Zanes, Laurie Berkner and magician Amazing Max.

Additional best bets for the weekend include Gustafer Yellowgold at Symphony Space, free films at MoMA and the Science of Basketball at the New York Hall of Science.

We've also got some great deals to share this week, including 40% off tickets to Sesame Street Live and Godspell, discounts on science summer camp and yoga classes, and more.
