Long Island Kids' Activities May 5 and 6: Cinco de Mayo Celebrations, Spring Festivals, Peconic Family Fun Day, and More!

Hold on to your sombreros! This weekend is chock-full of events for kids and families. There are Cinco de Mayo events (don't forget to enter for a chance to win a family four-pack of tickets to WBLI's Family Fiesta), Huntington's Tulip Festival, Hofstra's Dutch Festival, and Peconic Family Fun Day at the Children's Museum of the East End. Both Suffolk County Farm and Hallockville Farm are also having special spring celebrations, there's a fair at South Shore mall, and Saturday is I Love My Park Day: Take the family to Hempstead Lake Park, put on some gloves and help clean it up. Whew! Good luck choosing which events to attend!

I Love My Park Day is an exciting new statewide event to improve and enhance New York's parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs. We will host two volunteer events.
Starting at 9 AM until 2 PM, volunteers will clean the shoreline of the Northwest Pond. Pick sticks, garbage bags and gloves will all be supplied by NYS Parks to complete these volunteer efforts. All ages are welcome to participate! Following at 11 AM to 2 PM, volunteers will clean the shoreline of the Northeast Pond and the area between Northeast Pond and Northwest Pond. All ages are welcome! Please bring a snack and water. Meeting location is the field on the East side of Eagle Avenue, just north of the Southern State Parkway.

Flexitoon Puppets' "Hamlin"

As seen on PBS, HBO and Nickelodeon, the Flexitoon Puppets perform their new adaption of "Hamlin," the classic "telling- the-truth” tale about the Pied Piper of Hamlin. The story is told with comedy and positive messages by a colorful troupe of puppets, marionettes, scenery, shadows, and special effects. This is perfect entertainment for the whole family. WBLI and Park Shore Country Day School and Camp are throwing a party for families on Long Island to come and enjoy all the fun activities Park Shore has on its campus for free!
They’ll be serving lunch to everyone, plus there will be all kinds of activities for the kids to participate in all day including rock climbing, Bungee trampoline, Sky Trail high-ropes course, bounces, music/dancing and tons of giveaways all day long. 3rd Annual Peconic Family Fun Day

This free event for families with children ages 5-10 features live music by the Bridgehampton School Marimba Orchestra, educational games, bird-box building, fish prints, guided hikes, arts & crafts stations, a seed-planting station and more. Children will have a blast while they learn about local bays and groundwater, agriculture, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. Free admission to the museum is included during the event.
