Weekday Picks: MLK Day, Story Lab, and Tea January 18 - 22

This week kicks off with Martin Luther King Jr Day on Monday so you'll want to check the operating hours of your usual weekday haunts before you set out. Some libraries are offering special holiday programming while others are closed. We have a guide to some of our favorite events honoring Dr. King, including the special day of programming at the Bruce Museum described below.

There are some terrific library events all over the state this week, whether you're interested in Star Wars, a little paper circuitry 411, or  a tea party. For more fun things to do, check out our Event Calendar which we continue to update throughout the week.

Monday, January 18
Martin Luther King Jr. Family Day at the Bruce Greenwich
This annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life at the Bruce Museum includes activities in the education workshop throughout the day, as well as two performances by the Bright Star Touring Theater (tickets are first come, first served). As a special treat this year, admission is free. Free.

Tuesday, January 19
Star Wars Party Mansfield Center
Whether you feel the call of the dark side or the light side of the force, the Mansfield Public Library invites you for a celebration of all things Star Wars. There will be crafts, trivia, snacks, and more. Free.

Wednesday, January 20
Teens 'n Tech – Groton
Teens and tweens are invited to the Groton Public Library where they will learn about circuitry as they construct LED paper flowers. Free.

Thursday, January 21
Story Lab – Newtown
The EverWonder Museum in Newtown hosts a Story Lab for Young Explorers that includes 30 minutes of STEM-themed stories, activities, and crafts. This program is included with museum admission.

Friday, January 22
Teddy Bear Tea – Norwalk
Connecticut-based Bigelow Tea Company invites preschoolers to bring their beary good friends to the Sono Branch of the Norwalk Library to icelebrate National Hot Tea Month with tea (or lemonade), treats, and an interactive story time. Free, but preregistation is required.
