This Week: Spring Break Day Trips, Easter Crafts, Free Swimming Lessons Lottery

3/26/15 - By Ravelle Worthington

While the official start of spring came with yet another snowstorm, temperatures are on the rise and hopefully here to stay as we gear up for spring break!

If you're looking for ideas on how to spend the time, check out these fun excursions in nearby Jersey or our roundup of spring break camps, with something for all ages and interests.

The upcoming break isn't the only thing on New Yorkers' minds. Hundreds of parents, teachers and education advocates are preparing to protest against Governor Cuomo's controversial education reform proposal in support of NYC public schools this Saturday.

Also, it's that time of year—the lottery for the NYC Parks Department's free spring swimming lessons is now open through March 31.

Here's what else we covered on the NYC site this week:

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Easter is just one weekend away and the festivities are in full swing! Currently on tap: a fun-filled art workshop and breakfast with the Easter Bunny.

Keeping with the Easter theme, this week's WeeWork projects include details on how to make pom-pom chicks and these delicious (and easy!) bunny and chick pretzel treats.

Stop by the Prospect Park Carousel Friday as this seasonal favorite from our Weekday Event picks is now open for rides.

Spring cleaning? We know just what to do with clothes your children have either outgrown or no longer wear. One word: consignment! We've got the scoop on six great secondhand stores in NYC.

Sure April showers bring May flowers, but that doesn't mean your kid's batting arm has to get rusty. Here's a roundup of batting cages, so you can practice come rain or shine.

Other indoor fun includes Bricks 4 Kidz, a play space in Staten Island that offers hands-on classes where kids use Legos to build whatever creations come to mind.

This week we featured two great exhibits, The Wonder of Learning and The Pen, that really inspire kids to explore their creative sides.

We wrapped up our month-long focus on Soho and Little Italy with 14 of the best, not to mention diverse, family-friendly restaurants.

Best bets for the weekend include March GoList pick Brooklyn Kids Rock, a Passover dance party at the Jewish Museum and New Victory Theater's circus arts show, Catch Me.
