Free & Fun Things to Do this Weekend with NYC Kids: Easter Egg Hunts, St. Patrick's Day, Bello the Clown March 16-17

3/13/13 - By Stephanie Ogozalek

Happy St. Patrick's Day! There are plenty o' ways to celebrate this weekend beyond Manhattan's big St. Patrick's Day Parade, like more low-key processions in Staten Island and Park Slope, and the Irish Arts Center's annual family open house.

Easter egg hunts are also afoot in Tribeca and Brooklyn. Plus it's a great weekend for family culture: Two new circus shows, Cirque du Soleil's Totem and Bello Mania at the New Victory Theater, make their debuts, Patti Smith narrates Tubby the Tuba with the Little Orchestra Society and the American School of Ballet presents a free dance performance.

These are just a few of the great things going on this weekend. All of our best bets are below. You can find additional options in our Event Calendar.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

All Weekend

Bello Mania – Midtown West
Hit the New Vic to see circus star Bello Nock, the clown with the gravity-defying hair and acts, in a show he created and produced himself. Not only is his schtick very funny, he performs amazing acrobatic feats on the trampoline, the high wire and more. My family and I are big fans and can't wait to check it out. $14-$38

Avner the Eccentric in Exceptions to Gravity – Tribeca
Catch a neo-vaudevillian clown at the old-fashioned Canal Park Playhouse. It's the perfect venue for Avner the Eccentric, who looks like he stepped out of a time machine and amuses audiences of all ages with his silly silent humor and kooky routines. $20

The Prince & the Magic Flute – Park Slope
Puppetworks' new hour-long marionette show was inspired by Mozart's famous opera about a lovesick prince. Reservations recommended. $9 for adults, $8 for children

So I plan to hit one of these Ukrainian Museum workshops, which will be offered through Easter weekend. Best for children ages 12 and up. Registration required. $15 for adults, $10 for students ages 17 and up, $5 for ages 12-16
