Openings, Closings and Relocations. The Observatory at the top of One World Trade Center officially opens its doors to the public on Friday, May 29. Tickets are already on sale via OneWorldObservatory.com or by calling 844-696-1776. Sky Pods—elevators, which happen to be some of the fastest in the world—take visitors to levels 100, 101 and 102. On the way up, you can enjoy the immersive, floor-to-ceiling LED technology in each pod that features a virtual time-lapse of New York City’s skyline from the 1600s to the present day. You can also check out the See Forever Theater for a short video presentation on NYC life that combines time-lapse and bird's-eye imagery. Other cool features include the Sky Portal, where a 14-foot wide circular disk provides views of the streets below. Tickets are valid for a specific time and day, and its strongly advised to purchase in advance. $32 for adults, $26 for children ages 6-12, free for ages 5 and under though a ticket is still required.

Famed Pearl River Mart—one of our favorite places to shop in Soho with kids that's known for its selection of inexpensive products from China—plans to close its doors at 477 Broadway at the end of 2015 due to rising rent. According to Ching Yeh Chen, the company's president, rent is set to increase more than five times the current $100,000 monthly fee! Happily, Chen is looking at smaller locations south of Canal Street and will definitely continue the online store.

Brooklyn Robot Foundry's Tribeca robot-building studio is closing at the end of this month. But don't panic! It's not leaving the neighborhood; it's just moving a few blocks away to 72 Warren Street between West Broadway and Greenwich Street. The new outpost is scheduled to open by June 1 and summer camp should begin as planned on June 8.

High School Prep. Students who want to apply to NYC's Specialized High Schools must take a tough admissions exam. The expense of test prep courses has been cited as a reason for the lack of racial diversity at these schools. In an attempt to level the playing field for families who can't afford tutors, Hudson Guild is offering a completely FREE test prep camp from July 13 to August 7, every weekday from 10am to 4pm, lunch and field trips included. The program is open to students in sixth through ninth grades, and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Seats are limited. Contact Ted Teng at 212-760-9800 ext. 3035 for details.

Make a splash. Children ages 6 to 12 who aren't members of a formal swim team can take part in a little friendly competition at Asphalt Green's Annual Big Swim Meet, scheduled for Saturday, April 25. Kids can channel their inner Michael Phelps as they race across an Olympic-size pool. Everyone receives a medal for participating, as well as T-shirts and other goodies. There is no cost to enter, but preregistration is a must. In addition to being a fun event for kids, the Big Swim is also meant to raise awareness and money for Asphalt Green's Waterproofing program, which teaches NYC public school children to swim, so donations are encouraged.

It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights. Everyone's favorite pig and frog duo is heading back to the small screen! Yep, we're talking about The Muppet Show. The new series, set to feature Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang behind the scenes of a late-night talk show, is currently being developed by ABC. Oh Kermie, we love you so!
