Kodo (Newark, NJ)
This is a big-ticket item, but so cool that we had to include it. Kodo, Japan’s internationally acclaimed power drums corps, invokes the spirit of the Samurai in a program that is part athletic feat and part musical phenomenon. These “demon drummers” attack their instruments (the largest weighing 900 pounds) with a warrior intensity that preserves the primal power and bravura beauty of traditional taiko drumming. Based in a village on Sado Island in the Sea of Japan, the Kodo drummers have delivered the sound of taiko to more than 46 countries from war-torn Croatia to Carnegie Hall. “If there is such a thing as perfection in music, Kodo comes as near to it as any group in the world,” says The Boston Globe. Sunday, March 24 from 4pm to 6pm at NJPAC. Tickets range from $25-90, to purchase, click here.

Spring Cookie Decorating (Westfield, NJ)
Visit the Miller-Cory House Museum for storytelling and crafts. Children will be able to make a spring basket to take home and decorate cookies in the shapes of traditional spring symbols, such as butterflies, eggs and bunnies. The museum will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of the marshmallow peep! Also included are demonstrations of 18th century open hearth cooking with authentic recipes and seasonal ingredients. Sunday, March 24 from 2pm to 4pm. $3/Adults; $2/ages 3-12, free under age 3.
