The last weekend in January is here and if you’re looking to get out of the house and find some fun for the family, Westchester has it. Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Pelham Art Center with family friendly activities or make a Chinese New Year Dragon Puppet at Lakeshore Learning to ring in the Year of the Horse.

It’s the last weekend to catch Shrek The Musical put on by The Players Theater in White Plains. Westchester Community College is hosting The National Player’s in their version of the Odyssey. Throughout the weekend, visit St. Matthew’s Church in Bedford for The 41st Annual Art Show.

There are always plenty of activities available for the nature enthusiasts. This weekend let the family get some fresh air and check out It’s A Hoot, Waterfowl and Eagles, Tracks and Scats, and Winter Walk. 41st Annual Art Show Bedford
This art show at St. Matthew’s Church Fellowship Hall in Bedford features contemporary art, sculpture, and photography. There will be a children’s activity on Saturday. FREE.

Shrek The Musical White Plains
This is the last weekend to catch the live version of Shrek by The Play Group Theater in White Plains. On this not so traditional fairytale journey, Shrek discovers the value of friendship and realizes that true love is more than skin deep. $15-$18.

In collaboration with the Junior League of Pelham, Chinese New Year returns to the Pelham Art Center with family friendly activities commemorating the beginning of the Year of the Horse. FREE.

The National Players “Odyssey” – Valhalla
The Academic Arts Theatre at Westchester Community College presents The National Players “Odyssey”. Revisit or discover for the first time, Homer’s beloved hero Odysseus, and witness his remarkable homecoming. $16-$22.

It’s A Hoot Ossining
Meet one of Teatown Lake Reservation’s owls and dissect an owl pellet to find out what is hidden inside. Great for families with children ages 6 and older. $5.

Crafts Kids’ Club at Michael’s Hartsdale
Let the kids explore their creativity for a 30 minute craft session while you shop. This weekend’s craft is Glitter & Tie Dye Designs, Sparkle & Swirl. $2.

Craft Saturdays at Lakeshore Learning Scarsdale
Kids ages 3 and older can make a Chinese New Year Puppet Dragon this Saturday at Lakeshore Learning. FREE.

Waterfowl & Eagles Ossining
Meet in Teatown Lake Reservation’s parking lot and meet Charlie Roberto to visit local hot spots in search of waterfowl and wintering eagles. FREE.

Winter Snowshoe Hike Mount Kisco
Strap on your snowshoes and join in a hike at the Westmoreland Sanctuary dedicated to enjoying the beauty of the winter landscape. In the absence of snow, this program will be canceled. $5.

Tracks & Scats Ossining
Hike to discover what’s been happening in the woods and return to the nature center to match scats and tracks. $5.

Winter Walk Scarsdale
Bring your gloves and explore the Greenburgh Nature Center with a naturalist. Take an easy walk to study winter life and to see what animals need to survive the cold. $8.

Indoor Farmer’s Market White Plains
Enjoy live music and browse vendors selling a variety of items, all grown and produced by New York State farmers and vendors. FREE.

32nd Annual Westchester Camp & Activities Fair White Plains
Meet summer camp directors and staff from more than 50 day, specialty and sleep-away camps in the Westchester area and beyond. FREE.

BEYOND WESTCHESTER

Admission to Wave Hill in the Bronx is free all weekend where you can visit for the Hibernators’ Pajama Pop-In Weekend. Children can enjoy storytelling, crafts, an interactive performance featuring original songs and friendly puppets, and a nature walk.

The Whitney Museum of American Art in Manhattan is hosting a family workshop on performance art. Learn how artists use their bodies, environment, and different objects in their art. Families will then create and perform their own work. $10 per family includes museum admission.
