Family Friendly Things To Do This Labor Day Weekend in CT

Where did the summer go?  It seems like just a few weeks ago, I was finally putting away the snowblower and shovels!  The calendar doesn't lie, and Labor Day is almost here, the unofficial, last weekend of all that summer is made of. Our events calendar is full of fun stuff to do happening each day so be sure to check it out.  Labor Day Weekend is also the unofficial kick off to some of our favorite fall activities as well as the start of a huge fair season that spans all areas of Connecticut!  So, before the leaves start changing color and we fall into autumn, let the planning begin for your family's last, big weekend of summer, and make it memorable one! We've listed some fun activities for you to do with the kids as well as some great events happening this Labor Day Weekend.

If your fridge is anything like mine, you are over run with fresh picked berries!  Bags of frozen strawberries and blueberries, picked from the orchards, sit in bags waiting to be sprinkled on some ice cream or oatmeal.  Why not make a sweet, easy treat with the kiddos this Labor Day weekend that the entire family can enjoy?  Try our recipe for blueberry yogurt pops. They're easy to make with the kiddos and you likely have all the ingredients to make them already. With the weather is turning a bit warmer for the holiday weekend, it's a sweet, cool refreshing treat!  

Since Labor Day is about enjoying the last drops of summer sunshine it's likely you'll be spending a good amount of time with the family outdoors. Itching to hit the road for some fun away from home?  Here are some fun family events happening this Labor Day Weekend:

Goshen Fair Spanning all Labor Day weekend this huge fair includes livestock judging, fireworks, food and craft vendors, and more!  Try your hand at tossing a huge hay bale, the adult spelling bee, or the skillet tossing contest.  Of course, there are rides and games on the midway and live music, too!  

Woodstock Fair - The Woodstock Agricultural society celebrates their 154th annual Woodstock Fair over Labor Day weekend! This fair is an all day affair.  The grounds are huge and packed with rides, including the unmistakable, giant ferris wheel, food vendors, animal exhibits, contests, bake-offs, tractor pulling, 

Lyman Orchards Corn Maze - This annual fall rite of passage is back.  This year the theme is the musical British Invasion of the 60's!  Get lost in the 4 acre maze, traverse 2 miles of trails, answer trivia questions along the way, and when you finally find your way out, take a pony ride or a horse drawn carriage ride through the orchards. The corn maze is open daily through November 2nd.

Southington Drive In - Only one of three drive in's in the state, the Southington Drive in shows movies every Saturday, weather permitting (Rain date, Sunday), and this Labor Day weekend, the scheduled movie?  Frozen!  Pack the kids in the car and come sing along to everyone's favorite animated movie soundtrack!

Quassy Amusement Park - It's Car Load Labor Day!  Say goodbye to summer with a special $40 Carload Labor Day (up to 10 persons in your car) at Quassy! Support the Campership Fund as a portion of the weekend proceeds helps to send kids to camp!
