Family-friendly Fishing Charters in the Hamptons and North Fork

Reeling in a big fish for the first time will, for sure, bring a smile to any child's face, but creating that memory doesn't have to involve heading out to the store to purchase rods, reels, lures and bait or even obtaining a permit—the East End of Long Island has plenty of charter services that will make any family fishing expedition simple and a whole lot of fun.

These charters that cater directly to families provide everything needed for day of trolling the Atlantic Ocean including fishing guides, a boat with a captain, rods and bait. All families need to bring is a packed lunch. The following is a round-up of East End fishing charters that accommodate families and are now booking for 2014 spring and summer dates. Lazybones Charters
Lazybones Charters, located at 474 West Lake Drive in Montauk, has been providing family-friendly fishing charters since 1997 aboard the boat, Lazybones, which provides two trips each day: 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm. Each charter comes complete with two skippers, Serina and Rebecca, who are the daughters of Captain Mike Vegessi. The Viking Fleet
The Viking Fleet, based out of 462 West Lake Drive in Montauk, provides family-friendly fishing charters for porgie, sea bass and cod aboard its two vessels, The Star and The Starship, every day of the week, but times vary with afternoon trips only available on weekends. The fleet charges $85 per adult and $45 for children ages, 5 to 12. Bait is included in the fee, but rods must be rented for an additional fee, depending on what your family will be fishing for. The Cujo
The Cujo fishing charter, which operates out of the Star Island Yacht Club in Montauk, will tailor fishing expeditions for families and chart its course around calmer waters. The charter also provides fishing lessons for children aboard the Cujo boat, which can fit six passengers. Rates start at $1,025 for a full-day and $625 for a half day. The Peconic Star Fleet
The Peconic Star Fleet has several boats that can carry up to 150 passengers. The boats sail out of 103 3rd Street, in Greenport for family fishing expeditions for striped bass, fluke, blues and porgie, depending on the season. The boats are also available for tours of Southold's lighthouses and for seal and whale watching. Rates vary between $75 and $150 per person per trip.
