Long Island Fall Festival
If you like your Fall Fairs and Festivals to be all about the food with lots of rides and games, then you must go to The Long Island Festival at Huntington. Taking place in one of the coolest villages on the North Shore, the Huntington Fall Festival is by far one of the largest Fall celebrations around.

Offering major carnival attractions like rides, entertainment and games, great food from all the hip eateries in town, and live entertainment, the best part of this festival is that it is completely and totally geared for kids. From kid friendly food to a youth talent stage to facepainting and parades, a family could wear themselves out in an afternoon, leaving mom and dad to enjoy a quiet car ride back home while the kids take a nap in the backseat.

The festival runs this weekend, starting Friday, October 10th. But the best day to go is Sunday so you can catch the Columbus Day Parade while you’re there. By the way, one normally doesn’t think of carnivals as a great place to get food, but this is one exception; bring your appetite!

White Post Farms Fall Festival
If the Long Island Fall Festival in Huntington offers you the best classic carnival and fair atmosphere, then White Post Farms offers the very best of the more traditional Farm Fall Festivals. If you live on the Island, the chances your kids have or will visit White Post for a field trip in the Fall are pretty great (yet this place is worth another trip on the weekend, crowds and all). For the city dwellers, this is one place you should add to your list of places to road trip to this Fall.

From pony rides to stage shows, a petting zoo, bouncy slides, and a miniature train ride, to the uniquely Fall activities like the hay rides and pumpkin picking, this festival has all the activities plus great crafts to work on together, candied apples to eat, and shows to see. White Post Farms offers a down home country feel, and makes me think of that show Hee Haw every time I go because they have the coolest and most uniquely country stage shows there are.

My kids love the Singing Chicken Show, but there are literally dozens of entertainment shows to choose from, so be sure to check their daily schedule when you arrive so you don’t miss your favorite. Going on a weekend will give you the most options since everything is open and running on the weekend, but you can take advantage of many of the attractions on a weekday for a fraction of the cost.
