5 Sailing Schools for Long Island Kids

The summer is here and that means plenty of sunny days to spend out on a boat on Long Island's waters. For kids that love the water and enjoy the open ocean, sailing lessons might be in order. Sail Long Island offers several classes, including basic coastal cruising, docking and weather, as well as more advanced classes and private lessons in affiliation with the American Sailing Association. For more information, call 917-912-6342.

Port Sailing School

Port Sailing School offers a variety of sailing lessons, including a family sailing school where every member of your family can learn to sail at the same time. Throughout the summer, the school also offers two-week sailing lessons for teens and tweens.

The Waterfront Center

The Waterfront Center has several classes on tap this summer, including a family sailing program, as well as week-long junior sailing programs, which are available to beginners as well as more advanced little sailors.

Sail Montauk

Sail Montauk offers two-week sailing lesson courses to beginner sailors in groups of 4-5 students, ages 10 to 16 who will learn tracking, hoisting, docking, navigation and safety skills.

Sag Harbor Sailing School

The Sag Harbor Sailing School offers private lessons for kids ages 9 to 14. The classes are one-on-one and cover everything from leaving the dock, to sailing and can be tailored.
