Get festive. We can’t think of a better way to spend a day than at one of the many Spring Festivals around Long Island. Many of them are free and include food, crafts, music and more.

Learn outside. Take the kids to an outdoor museum where they can learn about culture while still enjoying the outside.

Take a hike. Hiking is not only a great way to spend quality time together, but it is also great exercise.

Hit the playground. Get the kids out of the house and let them run, swing and slide at your local playground.

Celebrate the Earth. Spring brings in Earth Day, where kids can learn how to take care of our planet at one of the events happening in the area.

Visit a botanical garden. Flowers will soon start to bloom and you can take them in (and get some great family photos) at one of Long Island’s Botanical Gardens.

Enjoy happy hour. No sitter? No problem! Grab the kids and head over to one of the various places on Long Island that host family-friendly happy hours. Some even have outdoor dining!

Get an adrenaline rush. Long Island’s amusement parks are opening for the season. Whether you want to ride Turbulence at Adventureland or swoop down a water slide at Splish Splash, you’ll be able to find a ride to get your heart racing.

Go on a day trip. Take a drive to Riverhead, Stony Brook or Port Jefferson Village—all have plenty of family-friendly sites and activities.

Have a picnic. Once the weather gets nice, pack up some lunch and dine al fresco. The kids will love it!

Bike ride. Dust off that bike that’s been locked in the shed and take in all of the surrounding beauty on one of LI's many bike trails.

Visit a winery. There are a few family-friendly wineries on the East End where kids can enjoy a petting zoo, playground, picnics and more while mom and dad sip some chardonnay.

Reel in some fish. Kids can drop a line and try to reel in the big one at piers and parks.

Sleep outside. Long Island is home to a bevy of campsites—just be sure to bring a warm sleeping bag since it can get chilly at night.

Take a ride out East. Before the crowds go out for the summer, take ride out to the Hamptons and North Fork.
