Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Winter Carnival and Valentine-Making, February 6-7

I'm always glad when February rolls around since it means spring is inching closer, and that's even more the case this year with the great weather we've been having. But winter isn't over yet, no matter what any groundhog thinks. A couple of ways to get out and enjoy the great outdoors this weekend are at a cool winter carnival (pictured) or on a hunt for animal footprints.

This weekend also offers up some events to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a puppet show, a monkey craft, or a celebration of the arts. Valentine's Day is just around the corner as well, and some great ways to prepare this weekend include pottery painting and a volunteer craft.

Weekend Fun for CT Kids: Libraries, Valentines, and Eagles, February 6-7

Even without the Patriots, for many of us this weekend is all about the Super Bowl. If you've got little ones, you know they can only sit still for so much non-animated TV so we've lined up all sorts of activities to wear them out before kickoff, whether they're interested in eagles, monster trucks, or anything in between.

This weekend is Take Your Child to the Library day, and libraries across the state are hosting all kinds of fabulous activities from concerts to llama visits to puppet shows, as well as magic shows at the libraries in Newtown and Bristol (all events are free, but check to see which require advanced registration). There will be staff on hand to sign kids up for their own library cards if they don't have them already.

We update our Events Calendar daily so be sure to check. To keep up with the latest family-friendly events and activities, be sure to also sign up for our newsletters, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Weekend Fun for Westchester Kids: Eaglefest, Winterfest, Victorian Valentine Tea, Feb. 6-7

As mentioned in our February GoList, this month is loaded with reasons for festivities for Westchester and Hudson Valley families, and this weekend is no exception. There are ways to celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, as well as the return of the annual Black History Month Celebration.

The biggest headliner of the weekend is the annual Hudson River Eaglefest, a multi-site event that celebrates the eagle’s return to Westchester. You also can embrace the season at Winterfest or Old-Fashioned Winter’s Afternoon, or think warm thoughts at the Annual Westchester Camp & Activities Fair.

Review: Very Hungry Caterpillar Children's Show Soars in NYC

It’s never easy to successfully adapt a popular book for stage or film (the expectations!), nor to keep a theater full of toddlers and preschoolers engaged and seated for an hour. Yet the latest stage adaptation of Eric Carle’s beloved The Very Hungry Caterpillar, playing in NYC this winter, does all that and more.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, which opened January 30, retells four iconic Carle tales with 75 handcrafted large-scale puppets, four actors who double as puppeteers and narrators and subtle but lyrical music that readies the audience for the animal magic about to appear on stage. It’s earnest, colorful, artsy and will hold your kid in awe for 60 solid minutes.
