21 Brooklyn Drop-In Play Spaces and Kiddie Gyms

When it comes to indoor play spaces, Brooklyn can't be beat. While both Manhattan and Queens have about a dozen drop-in indoor playgrounds apiece, Brooklyn boasts nearly two dozen places where kids can run amok. While we've include a couple of the more mellow tot spots with crafts or storytelling, this best of Brooklyn list is focused on the real active play spaces where toddlers, preschoolers and even tweens can conquer multi-level mazes, swoosh down slides, climb up rock walls or, you know, turn around in circles until they fall down exhausted and ready for a nap.

Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: WinterFest, History, Chinese New Year Feb 6-7

If winter happens to be your favorite time of year, it is your lucky weekend! There are plenty of family-fun events happening that celebrate this chilly, snowy time of year. Wagner Free Institute of Science's Winter Wonderland and Briar Bush Nature Center's WinterFest both offer seasonal crafts, games, and activities for families. Nature-loving visitors to Riverbend Environmental Education Center can explore the outdoors during cold winter months at its Winter Trek. Or, incorporate a history lesson into the mix at Valley Forge National Historic Park's Join the Continental Army experience.

On the other hand, consider sharing a cultural experience with your kids this weekend. Many museums throughout the Philadelphia area are celebrating Chinese New Year. Consider visiting Garden State Discovery Museum, Independence Seaport Museum, or Philadelphia Museum of Art for a variety of festivities welcoming the Year of the Monkey.

After spending time enjoying winter activities or museums, check out our Events Calendar as the spring consignment sales are starting to pop up.  New information is constantly being updated to our entire list so be sure to check back often. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Fun for LA Kids: Cookie Con, Mardi Gras, and New Look, February 6 - 7

Hey, sweetness, have we got some cookies for you! LA Cookie Con is taking over the LA Convention Center and, what’s that? You notice something different? Wild horses couldn't drag it out of us. Must just be the mood lift we’re getting from eating all those cookies…

Some work done? What exactly are you implying? That a website can’t wake up looking good one morning? Maybe we had our hair did: it is Valentine’s Day next weekend you know. A little makeup, perhaps a new outfit…

Okay, we admit it. We’ve had a complete overhaul. Nipped and tucked, stretched and twisted from top to bottom. All your favorite content is still there, now with a few added features, plus a fresh new look and easier navigation. There may be a few hiccups along the way (really, when aren't there?); be sure to let us know if you have any thoughts on our redesign, good, bad, or really good. We’re always interested in hearing what you have to say!

Keep reading for our favorite picks for this completely redesigned weekend…

Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Winter Carnival and Valentine-Making, February 6-7

I'm always glad when February rolls around since it means spring is inching closer, and that's even more the case this year with the great weather we've been having. But winter isn't over yet, no matter what any groundhog thinks. A couple of ways to get out and enjoy the great outdoors this weekend are at a cool winter carnival (pictured) or on a hunt for animal footprints.

This weekend also offers up some events to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a puppet show, a monkey craft, or a celebration of the arts. Valentine's Day is just around the corner as well, and some great ways to prepare this weekend include pottery painting and a volunteer craft.

Weekend Fun for CT Kids: Libraries, Valentines, and Eagles, February 6-7

Even without the Patriots, for many of us this weekend is all about the Super Bowl. If you've got little ones, you know they can only sit still for so much non-animated TV so we've lined up all sorts of activities to wear them out before kickoff, whether they're interested in eagles, monster trucks, or anything in between.

This weekend is Take Your Child to the Library day, and libraries across the state are hosting all kinds of fabulous activities from concerts to llama visits to puppet shows, as well as magic shows at the libraries in Newtown and Bristol (all events are free, but check to see which require advanced registration). There will be staff on hand to sign kids up for their own library cards if they don't have them already.

We update our Events Calendar daily so be sure to check. To keep up with the latest family-friendly events and activities, be sure to also sign up for our newsletters, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Weekend Fun for Westchester Kids: Eaglefest, Winterfest, Victorian Valentine Tea, Feb. 6-7

As mentioned in our February GoList, this month is loaded with reasons for festivities for Westchester and Hudson Valley families, and this weekend is no exception. There are ways to celebrate Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, as well as the return of the annual Black History Month Celebration.

The biggest headliner of the weekend is the annual Hudson River Eaglefest, a multi-site event that celebrates the eagle’s return to Westchester. You also can embrace the season at Winterfest or Old-Fashioned Winter’s Afternoon, or think warm thoughts at the Annual Westchester Camp & Activities Fair.
