Weekday Picks for Boston Kids: Summer Solstice and Boston on a Budget, June 20-24

With the last days of the school year in the bag—or almost in the bag—this is a perfect week to relax, celebrate, and map out the coming summer weeks. I've got all of these covered on my personal schedule with plans to hit an outdoor concert, a solstice celebration (pictured), and last but not least, a presentation I'm giving on free and cheap things to do in Boston this summer. Hope to see many of our readers there!

Many families like to take it easy the first week out of school, but don't forget to get the kids signed up for summer reading programs and any camps that might have last-minute openings. And besides all the great, free picks below, be sure to keep your eye on the full Event Calendar for other upcoming events.

Weekday Picks for LI Kids: Strawberry Moon Hike, Family Fun Night, June 20-24

For many Long Island kids, this is the last week of school--and there's plenty of things to do before the summer season begins. Knock down some pins at after-school bowling, enjoy the nighttime sky with a hike in Quogue, play some retro video games at the Cradle of Aviation and pack a picnic for Family Fun Night at Planting Fields.

There's even more going on this week, so be sure to take a look at our Long Island events calendar and our Summer Fun Guide. You can also get the best events of the week sent directly to your inbox each week if you sign up for our newsletter.

Weekday Picks: Movies, Gardens, and Stars, June 20-24, 2016

Summer officially arrives on Monday, and with it comes the fun outdoor movies, concerts, and hands on learning programs that make life in Connecticut so much fun.  This week alone, families can enjoy a movie on the beach or in a cool, air conditioned theater, or get up close and personal with hands on projects exploring gardening, flotation devices, or astronomy.

My own kids finished school last week so I'll be scouring the Event Calendar (and posting new events) to keep us all busy and happy. Check back here often and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest so that you don't miss a thing.

Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Dinosaurs, Harry Potter, Museums June 20-24

Summer camp, road trips, and water play are all ways Philly kids can look forward to spending the lazy, hazy days of summer. In addition to these traditional opportunities, children can experience some unique events this week as our Events Calendar is overflowing with fun.

Take a day trip to Reading Public Museum for an afternoon of dinosaur fun or Strasburg Railroad to visit Thomas the Tank Engine and his best pal, Percy. Explore the creek for wildlife at Norristown Farm Park or offer some community service at Riverbend Environmental Education Center. For a truly spectacular sight, admire local landmarks such as Glencairn Museum as they shine in beauty at night. And, for a truly spectacular sound, listen to the Philadelphia Orchestra as they pay homage to Harry Potter.

Continue reading for our top weekday picks, but be sure to browse through the entire calendar and June GoList as well. Enjoy the week ahead.
