February School Break: 35 Fun Things to Do with NYC Kids

Kids can stop praying for snow days. Midwinter recess kicks off for New York City public school kids starting this Presidents Day weekend, serving up nine days of uninterrupted holiday playtime. To help you make the most of the winter holiday, we've rounded up our top 35 things to do with kids across all five boroughs, right up through Sunday, February 21.

Lucky for us, NYC museums, ice rinks, parks and other institutions host a slew of special activities and promotions during the school break. Some of our picks take place on specific dates, others run the entire time and all are great ways to celebrate the freezin' season

CoolMess: Manhattan's New DIY Ice Cream Parlor

It isn't hard to find ice cream in New York City. The frozen treat is available on nearly every corner. But especially in Manhattan, the authentic "parlor" experience—where customers can sit at a table and where a sundae is delivered in a dish and not a paper cup—is rare.

Best Things To Do Valentine's & Presidents Day Weekend with LA Kids: Globetrotters & Chocolate, February 13-15

We love you. We really, really love you. We love you chocolate and puppy dogs. We love you horses and blossoms and noisy, bashing cars. We love you parades. We love you to the stars and back. We love you 26.2 miles.

We want to make you Valentines to show you our love. We want to make other people Valentines to show you our love. We want to make you a frame to put a picture in that will show you our love. We want to ride our bikes, make music, and do tricks with balls to show you our love. We want to write you love poems.

We love you so much that we want to give you a day off from school. And on that day, we will introduce you to presidents and take you to a museum and entertain you with a movie .  Because that’s how much we love you.

So...   um... just wondering.... how do you feel about us? Maybe enough to keep reading for our most beloved picks for this weekend…?

President's Day Weekend Fun for Philly Kids: Valentines, History, Art Feb 13-15

With the three (or four) day weekend almost upon us, parents throughout the Philadelphia area can turn to our Events Calendar for ways to keep their children learning and engaged. This long weekend is extra-special since both Valentine's Day and President's Day are celebrated. Therefore, families can find a variety of great activities to satisfy craft lovers and history buffs.

To prepare for Valentine's Day, consider making cards at Hagley Museum's Victorine's Valentine's Day workshop. Check out the ice sculptures at Laurel Hill Gardens' Valetines on Ice. Or, take in the beautiful music of Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra's Valentine Concert held at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. Kids interested in history may enjoy making a President's Day mask, learning about colonial times, or celebrating George Washington's birthday with the General himself!

Activities are constantly being added to our Events Calendar so be sure to check it regularly. In addition, follow us on Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, and like us on Facebook to keep up with the latest fun. Have a great long weekend!

Weekend Fun for Boston Kids: Trains, Ships, and Valentines, February 13-14

Happy Valentine's Day! My plans for the holiday most certainly include sharing a heart-shaped box of chocolates with my loved ones, but families can find all different kinds of activities to celebrate around town this weekend. From a sweet concert to a nature craft to a tea party, everyone can enjoy the holiday in style.

If your kids would rather check out trains and ships than hearts and chocolates, you're in luck with opportunities to view model trains (pictured), Lego trains, or model ships. As we ramp up for February vacation week, some of these free and worth-the-money programs are already underway, and don't forget that some events to celebrate the Lunar New Year are going on throughout the month. The new IMAX movie, National Parks at 100, also opens this weekend at the Museum of Science.

Enjoy your weekend and don't forget to check out the full Events Calendar!

One-Hour Family Vacation: National Parks Adventure in IMAX 3D

There is nothing quite like a milestone birthday. In 2016 The National Parks service turns 100. Thanks to the prescient collaboration of President Theodore Roosevelt and naturalist John Muir, 400 plus sites have been preserved for generations to enjoy as national parks. In honor of these natural landmarks’ first century, McGillivray Freeman Films and IMAX 3D have produced a spectacular movie, America Wild: National Parks Adventure. It's an IMAX film to watch as a family and then plan your next vacation.
