Weekday Picks for Philly Kids: Valentines, Stories, Stars Feb 8-12

Love is in the air, as many Philly families can tell from the variety of Valentine fun that appears in our Events Calendar this week. Take a trip to Bucks County Children's Museum to make a Valentine craft. Listen to the story, Carmine: A Little More Red at Brandywine River Museum's Read Aloud workshop. Or, enjoy a Valentine Tea Party at Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy. For older kids, check out Franklin Institute's Night Skies in the Observatory.

To stay current on the week's latest fun, be sure to like us on Facebook, and follow us on Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter. Have a fantastic week.

Weekday Picks: Mardi Gras, Dora, More Free Fro-Yo, February 8-12

Mardi Gras in LA might be better called "low fat" Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t know how to celebrate. The Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax and Amoeba Records both annually find ways to let the good times roll (and the beads fly) for kids.

One love story that never grows old and seems to find its way back to the El Capitan every February is Lady and the Tramp. If you want to make this a true event, spring for an accompanying spaghetti dinner at Miceli’s, which replicates the candlelit scene from the movie. Miceli’s is old school red sauce dining and was this Angeleno’s very favorite pizza parlor when she was a kid.

Walt Disney’s classy cocker spaniel isn’t the only one with good manners. At Santa Monica's Superhero and Princess Academy, our heroes and heroines’ evening of etiquette at the Academy Ball is interrupted by villains whose rude and evil antics must be thwarted with a bit of help from the audience.

We hope you're enjoying our new look at Mommy Poppins. The site may be new but one thing hasn’t changed: you can still find many more things to do this week on our Event Calendar and February GoList.

Weekday Picks for Boston Kids: Snowy Fun and Bugs Bunny, Feb 8-12

Maybe it's because of all the snow we're getting, but we're a little obsessed with snow sports right now. New England is the place to live whether you're into snowshoeing, skiing, or snowboarding. Snowshoeing can be enjoyed just about anywhere there's good hiking in the Boston area and at our favorite spots in Rhode Island, too.  With the Blue Hills right here, you barely have to leave the city limits to take the kids skiing

If you'd rather watch someone else do crazy stunts in the snow, you're in luck: Athletes from all over the world show their stuff on a 140-foot ramp built for Polartec Big Air at Fenway this week. Of course, you can't spend all of your time outdoors, so we've chosen some of the best indoor family events as our weekday picks.

Visit our Event Calendar each day for even more inspiration!

Weekday Picks for LI Kids: Valentine's Fun, Darwin Day, Feb. 8-12

Celebrate Valentine's Day a few days early this week with a special storytime at Once Upon a Treetop and special Sweetheart Jump at Pump it Up. And be sure to check out other Valentine's Day actvities and crafts leading up to the big day. Kids can also drop in for some gym time and learn about Darwin Day. For more, check out our Long Island events calendar. You can also get the best events of the week sent directly to your inbox each week if you sign up for our newsletter.

Weekday Picks for Westchester Kids: Beach Blast, Tween Science, Valentine's Day, Feb. 8-12

Are we the only ones who can't believe it's almost February break? Last week notwithstanding, we've had it way too easy when it comes to the weather (OK, and that other little storm we had as well).

Though this winter has been tolerable so far, Winter Beach Blast offers a balmy escape to (pretend) warmer climes. For a different kind of STEAM, sign your tween up to perform engineering feats at Tween Science Day. Those who enjoy creative design can use simple programming at GameMaker Studio.

But that’s not all: Our Event Calendar also boasts numerous Valentine’s Day celebrations, Chinese New Year activities, FREE kids’ yoga classes and more! Check it all out after you read on for our top weekday picks—and consult our February GoList to plan the rest of the month.

You may have noticed that we've undergone a new design. We would always love to hear what you think, so feel free to email us or leave a note on Facebook

Say Hello to Zaniac, Manhattan's New After-School STEM Center

As TV's Grease Live might croon, “STEM is the word!” From the president to the mayor right down to the schools, everyone wants to get kids, especially girls and children of color, excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

And now New York City has one more STEM play and classes spot for kids. Zaniac, which has outlets around the country, including in Greenwich and Westport, Connecticut, recently opened its first STEM-focused, after-school and camp center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
