Each week, Seleni Institute offers drop-in hours at the Family Room. In their relaxed, welcoming, and infant-friendly environment, they will recreate the “village.” Join our supportive and educational community and talk with an infant and parent development specialist while your infant plays with a variety of developmentally appropriate materials. You can meet other new moms, bring questions, or just enjoy being out of the house! Drop-In at Seleni’s Family Room helps make these first months with baby exciting and enjoyable.

Pre-registration is not required, but you are welcome to register in advance

 Kidberry’s drop-in Story-Telling Hour celebrates the joys of sharing stories.  The class leader will read books to children and children are invited to bring in their favorite books and tell their own stories. Each session includes music, singing and exercises for children and adults to work together to share and create stories.

Games and art projects, ranging from designing cities to making animal masks. Supplies provided.

Visit The Birth Day Presence Studio every Wednesday for drop-in storytimes with music, stories, puppets and more. Hear songs, books and fables, and classic nursery rhymes with a special twist into an interactive and stimulating storytime specially crafted for babies and toddlers.

Space is limited to the first 17 families 

The French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) hosts a French Story Hour at Book Culture. Led by FIAF's Director of petit pas, French for toddlers program, this story hour is the perfect introduction to French for les petits, combining playful activities and a sing-along all en francais.

Dana Banana returns to Bank Street Bookstore for a rip-roaring time full of music and dancing every Wednesday afternoon in May.

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.

Catch-and-release fishing at the Harlem Meer is a favorite family and community pastime. Fishing poles are available to borrow at the Charles A. Dana Center, located on the north shore of the Meer. Picture ID required; instruction and bait are provided with the poles.

The Harlem Meer is a thriving aquatic ecosystem that supports a wide variety of fish, waterfowl, turtles, plants and microorganisms. Some of the fish living in the Meer include largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill sunfish, carp and chain pickerel.

The catch-and-release fishing schedule:

Tues-Sat: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (poles must be returned by 4:00 pm)

Sun: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm (poles must be returned by 2:00 pm)

16 years and older require a NY State fishing license.  Kids  can fish without one.

10-11AM Thursdays 5/30 - 9/26

Hands-on learning and play activities will vary from week to week and will include eco-crafts, music, watery experiments, and more.

Young artists are introduced to paper, clay, wood, and paint with projects planned by an art educator/artist.

Learn what it takes to care for these creatures and even assist in an actual feeding. There will also be opportunities to meet a box turtle!

Songwriter and performer Spencer Chandler will be leading a Weekly Banjo Sing alongat Two Moon Art House & Cafe. Sing fun original songs like “Coyote” and “Peanut Butter & Jelly” – plus popular folk standards, too.

The family music band NIKOSKIDS is a project put together and led by Brooklyn based musician, teacher and furniture maker Nikolai Moderbacher. With two albums to their name and another one on the horizon, NikosKids’ “Funky Family Folk” has been putting its stamp on the family music scene all around the city. This music is for all sizes and ages, taking from the folk tradition and blasting into the future, this is original music that will have children AND adults singing and bopping along!!
