Launched in 2006, National Design Week is held each year in conjunction with the National Design Awards program. During National Design Week, Cooper-Hewitt's award-winning Education Department hosts a series of free public programs based on the vision and work of the National Design Awards honorees.

Cooper-Hewitt Family Events

Target Design Kids: Design Week Celebration
Sunday, October 5,  11am-3pm
Celebrate the end of National Design Week with the Cooper Hewitt team and special guest designers! For families with children ages 5 – 12.

NDW Drop in Afterschool Program 
Daily, Monday, October 6-Friday, October 10 - 4pm - 6pm
A week of Drop in on Design Family Workshops to celebrate National Design Week! Experiment with materials and create something speciall. For families with children ages 5-12.

Teen Design Fair
Tuesday, October 7 - 4pm-6pm
Teens can talk with top designers working in the fields of fashion, product design, architecture, graphic design and more. Explore design careers from professional designers, discover career paths, learn the complexities of what designers do, and find out what designers love about their jobs. Past designers include: Tim Gunn, Facebook, Ann Taylor Loft, Kate Spade, Nike, Kenneth Cole, Heath Ceramics, Van Cleef & Arpels, Milton Glaser, Smart Design, Pentagram, Rocawear, and Herman Miller.

All events except the Teen Design Fair take place at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Center at 111 Central Park North. 

The Teen Design Fair will take place at Fashion Institute of Technology,  John E. Reeves Great Hall, 28th Street and 7th Avenue
