Preparing for the New Year Walking Tours of Chinatown 1pm-3pm
See how Chinatown transforms itself during Lunar New Year.
Lion Dance and Workshop 12pm-1pm
The United East Athletic Association’s Lion Dance team performs, then learn about this art form during an interactive workshop.
Words for Everyday: A Reading with Michele Wong McSween 1:30pm –2:15pm
Learn everyday words in Mandarin during this reading and workshop with author Michele Wong McSween.
New Year Festival Dances 3:00pm-3:45pm & 4:00pm-4:45pm
The Red Silk Dancers will perform and there will be workshops to learn new dance steps.
Teaching Artists Demonstrations 10:30am-3:30pm
Artists from the Chinese Cultural Art Association will conduct demonstrations.
11:00 am - 6:00 pm:
Make folded paper lanterns, paper fish, spring couplets, and flower collages.
Meet Kam Mak, designer of the United States Postal Service’s Celebrating Lunar New Year stamp series, and make stamp-inspired artwork.
Paper artist Shu-Shia Sanborn will demonstrate the art of paper cutting and folding as she prepares spring characters for festival attendees.
