Coast is Santa Monica’s open streets event. Families can enjoy two miles of car-free streets and discover local food, music, shops, culture, dance, and interactive installations along the route.

Coast is entirely free and family-friendly. The event is held on approximately two miles of car-free streets in Downtown Santa Monica, including Ocean Avenue (from Wilshire to Colorado), Colorado (from 5th to Ocean), and Main Street (from Colorado to Pier Ave.).

It’s not a race or a sporting event, and there’s no start or finish, and no right way to do it. Visitors can come for an hour, walk a block and sit down at a cafe, or ride bikes from end to end.

Unique fun along the way includes a pop-up roller rink (you can borrow roller skates), a skate park (you can learn to skateboard), a community mural (you can make your mark), a giant fingerprint mural (you can leave your identifying information), and a GIF making photobooth (you can say cheese).

The route features a variety of interactive and eclectic performances including Beck + Col: The Revolting Lumpen: A Classical Opera, California Feet Warmers,;Mariachi Lindas Mexicanas, a Puppet Parade featuring Cuñao, John Steven Morgan, Sol e Mar, and Mobile Dance Brigade.

Kids can practice safety skills at the Bike Rodeo. Let's Jump, LA shows off fancy footwork in high-energy jump rope performances. The Shotgun House is open for viewing. The Santa Monica Community Garden offers a variety of ways to explore the natural world through garden tours, arts and crafts, salad-making, and soil and composting workshops. The Santa Monica Farmers Market spills out onto Main Street for the duration of the event.

In the weeks leading up to the event, COAST offers free community workshops around town and at The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium East Wing.

Free rides are offered on all Big Blue Buses across all routes the entire day of the event. Routes 1, 2, 3, Rapid 3, 7, Rapid 7, 8, 9, and 18 all serve Downtown Santa Monica.
