City Parks Foundation is proud to announce the launch of The Three Bears Holiday Bash, a new marionette production beginning November 17, 2009 at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park.

The Three Bears Holiday Bash is a variety show that celebrates the holiday season in song, dance, and puppetry. This production quickly becomes a comedy of errors when Baby Bear invites Santa to star in Mama and Papa Bears’ annual holiday show. Drawing from the stories of Hanukkah, the Night Before Christmas, and Kwanzaa, The Three Bears Holiday Bash is a great way to get in the season spirit.

Show times for The Three Bears Holiday Bash, beginning Tuesday, November 17, 2009 are Tuesday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., with an additional performance at 2:30 p.m. each Wednesday; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The production will conclude running through January 3, 2010.

Reservations are required. Tickets are $5/children and $8/adults. Group rates are available for schools and other large groups. For reservations, group rates, and information on birthday parties, please call 212-988-9093.

Face the Music performs an energetic, rhythmic program of works by New York and Latino composers. The centerpiece of the concert is the world premiere of Chaqui Chaqui Bámbula by Francis Schwartz, a longtime composition professor at the University of Puerto Rico and renowned creator of riotous “audience interactive” experiences. Also on the program: Nepomuk’s Dances, a driving, rock-influenced string quartet by Brazilian composer Marcelo Zarvos, better known for his scores to films like The Door in the Floor and Kissing Jessica Stein; Miguel del Aguila’s Salón Buenos Aires, which calls to mind the Latin America of a gentler era, albeit with a little bit of especiar; and Face the Music “standards” Exquisite Corpses and Yo Shakespeare, both “hard-rocking classical” pieces with a strong connection to the city in which we live.

Our walks on Sundays meet at the Boathouse (approximately 74th Street on the East Drive). We end our weekend Central Park walks at the Boathouse at about noon - you can get a cup of coffee and a muffin there (around $3 total). Most bird walks last about three hours, but feel free to leave at anytime, we won't take it personally. We have an extra pair or two of binoculars to rent, so if you want to rent a pair, just call or email before the walk to let us know. Also, if you are thinking of purchasing new binoculars, ask us - we probably have used them, and we will let you know how to get them for the best price.

Talented Teens Take To The Stage, Rubin Museum

Five talented teenagers will join the likes of Alice Walker, Billy Corgan, and Sarah Silverman as part of The Red Book Dialogues series at the Rubin Museum of Art. A teen musician, dancer, entrepreneur, singer and spelling bee winner will interpret and react to an illustrated page from Carl Jung’s Red Book with psychotherapist and educator Dr. Robin Stern, exploring their subconscious and tapping into their creativity as they go. This program is designed especially for families with young audiences.

In addition to expressing themselves through words, the teens will also be invited to draw and write on large scrolls of paper that will be projected onto the theater screen for the audience to see.

After the Dialogue, families are invited to take part in the Paint Your Own Dreams Family Workshop at 2:00 p.m. where they will create a collaborative volume of painted dreams inspired by Jung’s Red Book.

Join the Central Park Conservancy and award-winning storyteller Regina Ress at the darkest time of year for candle-making from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and stories about the many beautiful mid-winter holidays that celebrate the light in the darkness from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The approaching Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and the New Year are all celebrated with captivating stories and brilliant light. Bring your whole family to the Dana Discovery Center for this multi-cultural program that culminates with a candle-lit procession in which we invite the light to return, and with it, a sweet new year.
